About me

My name is Karanveer Singh, also known as Handsomejatt. When I was born, my parents discovered that I had Cerebral Palsy (CP) at just six months old. In search of a cure, we moved to India, where we spent ten years. However, we did not find the medicine we were looking for.

Education:
In 2014, we returned to the United States. In 2016, I began my educational journey after receiving an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device, which gave me a voice. I enrolled in classes at Highline Community College. My first class, Intercultural Communication, helped me find direction in my life. Following that, I took a reading class, which was challenging due to my limited exposure to reading in India. Nevertheless, I persevered and improved my reading and writing skills.

Film editing:
My interest in video editing led me to connect with Mr. Mark, an Apple representative. He provided me with an iMac and a head mouse, and became my first video editing teacher. With guidance from Mr. Sean Puno, my film editing professor at Highline College, I learned to use Adobe After Effects. I also received footage from the Bleach store in Tacoma, Washington, which I edited into videos. Over the past seven years, I have edited approximately 80 videos.

Presentations:
My first public speaking opportunity was at the Kent School District, thanks to Mr. Carmen. Though nervous, I spoke in front of 50 people. Subsequently, I spoke at Apple's keynote speech, where I was invited by Mr. Mark along with Lieutenant Governor Cyrus Habib. Since then, I have given around 30 presentations. In 2024, I had the honor of presenting at the Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA) 2024 Prentke Distinguished Lecture Award in Orlando, Florida.

Consulting:
Ms. Rose was my occupational therapist at school. After 2 months of getting out of school, she introduced me to consulting. Using my AAC device, I consulted with students at school districts, establishing a connection with them due to our shared experiences. Rose mom then introduced me to the Special Education Technology Center (SETC), where I have been working since 2019 as a public speaker, consultant, and film editor.
